WHAT DOES A NOTARY DO?
The practical realities of life as a Notary in Limerick involves witnessing signatures, swearing affidavits for use abroad and certifying documents. A Notary can certify that certain matters have been done in relation to company law and commercial transactions.
You will have to attend in person with the document and bring with you a valid form of photo ID (usually passport or driver’s license) and a utility bill or other proof of address not less than 3 months old. If documents are being certified as true copies of originals, you will need to bring the original with you also.
If you need to get a document apostilled or authenticated, then after the notarial certificate has been applied to the document, it must be brought to the Department of Foreign Affairs for the apostille to be added. You can find helpful instructions on the Department of Foreign Affairs website at https://www.dfa.ie/travel/our-services/authenticating-documents/.
