What is the law in Ireland in relation to bullying and harassment?
Under the Employment Equality Act 1998-2015, employers have a duty to prevent harassment in the workplace. Where the harassment is related to a protected characteristic, employers may have to pay compensation to employees. The nine protected characteristics are:
- Age
- Civil status
- Disability
- Family status
- Gender
- Membership of the Traveller community
- Race
- Religious belief
- Sexual orientation
If you have been harassed at work on the grounds of these characteristics, we may be able to help you make a claim to the Workplace Relations Commission.
